Here, we're pulling together a list of books suggested by various professionals, faculty and other credible sources. When we can, we try to provide who suggested it and why. If you've got one for us to add, email Erin Caldwell at erin (at) forward-moving.com
- A good PR textbook! - As suggested by Dr. Margaret Fitch-Hauser, coordinator of Auburn University's public relations program, it's wise for practitioners -- both new and experienced -- to always have a good PR textbook on hand.
- Strategic Planning for Public Relations (by Ronald D. Smith) - Suggested by Peter Hollister, APR, Fellow PRSA, of Hollister, Trubow and Associates. This suggestion arose in an interview with Kelly Papinchak. Interesting note: this is the text for Fitch-Hauser's public relations campaigns class.
- Strategic Thinking (by Andy Bruce and Ken Langdon) - Also suggested by Hollister.
- The Fall of Advertising and the Rise of PR (by Al Ries and Laura Ries) - Suggested by Fitch-Hauser, as well as Pete Pepinsky of Lewis Communications, Birmingham, Ala. According to Pepinsky, "'The Fall of Advertising & The Rise of PR' is a breezy read that will give you pride and respect for your chosen profession, approaches to use with clients, and ammo to hold the advertising devotees at bay."
